Music played an enormous role in maintaining public resistance. Numerous songs, written in underground circles and rerecorded on cassettes tapes, changed hands many times. They made it possible to survive the most difficult period and retain hope. A special position was gained by Jacek Kaczmarski, who immediately before the introduction of martial law found himself in the West. His songs, which were aired by Radio Free Europe and copied on thousands of tapes, shaped an entire generation of listeners who believed that a day will come when the "walls shall fall"...

Rock songs written at the time also presented a specific image of the history of martial law.
